United Way of Mercer County champions quality programs for children and families in our region. Leveraging resources and advocating for opportunities, United Way is a catalyst for innovative learning and creative programs that educate and inspire children and youth. As part of our mission, United Way of Mercer County is collaborating with our partners to offer Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a dynamic book ownership program for young children from birth to 5.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a dynamic initiative to foster school success by igniting early learning through book ownership for children from birth to age 5 in our region. United Way of Mercer County is the local champion working with sponsors and donors to secure funds that bring this wonderful opportunity to children in our community. The funds raised are used to partner with the Imagination Library which mails a book to every enrolled child once a month until their 5th birthday at no cost to the family. The demand for this program in Mercer County has been exceptional with over 1000 children having received books. All funds raised from PA-OH Gives goes directly to monthly books for children; there are no administrative costs. The costs paid directly to Imagination Library are $2.10 per child per month towards books and mailing, for a yearly total of $25.20 per child.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has become the preeminent early childhood book gifting program in the world. Dolly envisioned creating a lifelong love of reading, inspiring them to dream. The feedback from our parents has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Please help bring a love of reading to a child in Mercer County.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library offers an important resource to families, especially during the time of isolation and limited resources. Sending books to a child is a gift that allows them to dream and explore from their own home. Through the Imagination Library, our goal is provide a window to the world of possibilities to the children of Mercer County offering comfort and companionship during this time of change and uncertainty. Through PA-OH Gives, United Way of Mercer County is building a foundation of community support that will enable more children in our county to receive a monthly book.
