SERVING LAWRENCE COUNTY
AMOUNT DONATED: $18,695
At the Lawrence County YMCA, our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy body, mind and spirit for all. Our vision is to develop a new generation of changemakers who will create communities which we'd all like to live. We envision communities where all people achieve health, gain confidence, make connections and feel secure at every stage of life.
While the match program for Giving Week is over, the need doesn't end! Please feel to make a gift at any time.

Programs Supported by Your Donations
The 7th Grade Initiative, which includes free summer memberships and a milestone-developmental program, is offered to 7th Graders in three school districts in Lawrence County.
“YMCA Fun Days” was developed to bring YMCA camp games and activities to kids and families on-site in the communities where they live. During the delivery of these fun programs, we begin to develop trusting relationships with families, so they feel comfortable and safe enough to participate in the YMCA Summer Learn to Swim lessons held at the YMCA. In collaboration with other local organizations, parents are given access to much-needed resources, while specifically trained YMCA staff engage with the children in fun activities, promoting YMCA Core Values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility. In the future, our hope is to expand this into a “Y on the Fly” program, whereby a van equipped with equipment, games, snacks and YMCA staff visits each of our county’s Section 8 housing developments weekly.
Our Diamond Girls Program is a mentoring program for girls in 5th grade through their high school graduation, which helps them develop social skills and self-confidence and learn about opportunities available to them to help them on a path toward successful adulthood.
Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help
The Y's membership fees are used for our day to day operations and regularly-scheduled programs. Additional funds received through donations to the Y are used to provide membership assistance to low-income households, and support and develop programming to assist youth in our community, such as the Summer Feeding Program, 7th Grade Initiative, and YMCA Fun Days. These donations are especially needed at this time, as our Y has been impacted by the recent mandated closure of our facilities due to COVID-19. However, we are committed to serving our community and need your help, now more than ever!
