MERCER COUNTY COALITION FOR DRUG AWARENESS
SERVING THE SHENANGO VALLEY, GREENVILLE/NORTHERN MERCER COUNTY, GROVE CITY, AND NORTHERN TRUMBULL COUNTY
AMOUNT DONATED: $1,220
ROAR Center provides interaction through activities and events for people to learn healthy alternatives to drug use. Our goal is to help people learn how to have fun again sober through social interaction and new hobbies while providing support and understanding. We work to eliminate the stigma of addiction and promote long-term recovery. We offer space for recovery support groups to meet and continue to grow our activities for those working on their recovery and their families and loved ones.
While the match program for Giving Week is over, the need doesn't end! Please feel to make a gift at any time.

Programs Supported by Your Donations
Our Healthy Alternatives Program is a variety of activities planned for individuals to learn to have sober fun again and try new things. This includes yoga, knitting, cooking classes, crafts/ceramics, karaoke, and outdoor events such as hayrides and kayaking. Some of these activities require instruction from people outside the board/staff at ROAR and are paid a stipend. Some require payment for the activity outside the ROAR Center and we try to be able to provide this as many people would not have opportunity otherwise.
Also, we have an Independent Living Skills program we would like to be able to sustain and grow, as it is much needed for those who have had long-term addiction issues and have not had the opportunity to effectively self-manage their lives and environments. Keeping our doors open both morning and evening hours provides more opportunity for people to participate in the programs offered, as well as provides space for recovery support groups to meet regularly. There are supplies needed for many activities that we need to keep on hand. Many activities can still be done with social distancing during this time of COVID-19, but still require protective equipment which we must purchase to continue activities.
Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help
MCCDA/ROAR Center relies heavily on contributions from private donors and foundations. Due to COVID-19 many funds from those able to help have gone to assist those affected by the virus, as expected. However, without funding our organization is not likely to be able to maintain the programming or hours of operation of pre-virus such as our Healthy Alternatives Program and Independent Living Skills. Also, the ability to plan and execute events such as kayaking and other outings many will experience for the first time will be impossible.
