Giving Week Progress:

FUNDRAISING GOAL: $5,000

  Programs Supported by Your Donations

The Shenango Valley Urban League’s Education and Youth Department will benefit from any donations. Funds will support the Summer Youth Apprenticeship Program and the Code 4 Your Future Program.
The Summer Youth Apprenticeship Program provides youth with employment skills through job shadowing experiences at local businesses as well as classroom training. The goal is to develop pre-employment and employment skills, apply academic skills in the workplace, and strengthen decision-making and problem solving skills. These experiences teach youth the importance of communication skills, goal setting, professional conduct and appearance, punctuality, money management, resume and cover letter construction, and teamwork skills.

The goal of the Code 4 Your Future Program is to expose and train students, specifically minorities in the field of computer programming to help promote and engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) related fields, to develop a love for technology in young minority students and to understand that technology is a tool of the 21st Century. Outcomes include; increased confidence in skill-set, increased number of students to enter coding workforce pipeline, exposure to digital technology, improved attitudes toward a STEM field, and increased problem-solving.

Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help

The Summer Youth Apprenticeship Program lost funding this year due to the pandemic. Funds that were usually provided for the program were diverted to pandemic relief efforts that focused on food insecurity and other necessary areas.

The Code 4 Your Future Program is out of the funding that we initially had for the inaugural program. We are very much interested in having the opportunity to provide this program to students in the community who may have an interest in STEM fields, specifically computer programming, but do not know much about it.
