The Salvation Army Grove City Service Unit is comprised of community volunteers who offer hope through direct assistance to vulnerable individuals and families. Unlike a Salvation Army Worship and Service Center, in which we have buildings, Service Units are an “Army without walls;” volunteers providing the same direct assistance, but out of various churches or other non-profits. Individuals and families call The Salvation Army Grove Service Unit and meet with a Human Services Secretary to discuss their need and complete necessary paperwork. The Service Unit provides financial assistance with utility, rent, lodging, food, and clothing . The Grove City Service Unit offers various special projects each year to reach a specific population. For example, we provide items to vulnerable seniors such as fresh produce, food, grocery store gift cards, vouchers to Salvation Army Family Store, hygiene items, and cleaning supplies.
We also provide a back-to-school clothing program to purchase new clothing for children, so they have a positive start to a new school year. Our annual Woman’s Day program offers women a day “off” to focus on themselves.
Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help
This past year, we saw an increase in utility and rental assistance, as the covid moratoriums ended. Many are still impacted by loss of job or cut in work hours and utility and rent amounts owed are much higher when they come to us for assistance. Therefore, we anticipate an increase in the amount of funding we will be allocating for direct emergency assistance.
