The library is a patron-focused resource center, enhancing the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds by providing outstanding materials, programs, and technology in a safe inviting environment. Since the library opened its doors in 1923, the goal has been to enhance lives of the community members, especially the under-privileged, by providing free programs, educational opportunities, and a safe space for all people to learn and grow.

Programs Supported by Your Donations

Several library programs will directly benefit from Giving Week donations. One will be the continued development of local Storywalks© in our community. A Storywalk is a deconstructed children’s book displayed on posts in a weather-safe manner, along popular walking trails or paths. The walks will be constructed at four locations in the area, allowing easy access to quality children’s literature. Storywalks promote greater family involvement in early literacy skills, encourage learning in a natural setting, boost physical activity, and increase use of public spaces. This project is the result of a wonderful partnership between the Community Library, City of Hermitage, Buhl Park, Hermitage School District, and the Hermitage Recreation Department.

In addition to the Storywalks, our Children’s programming, such as weekly story hours, Summer Reading Programs and other children’s programs, will benefit immensely from any donations that the library receives during Giving Week. Those donations can also be used for supplies in our Teen Maker Space, enabling us to use it for STEM instruction throughout the year. Furthermore, adult programing, such as crafts, art classes, book clubs, technology instruction, and educational tutorials will also benefit from donations that can pay for supplies, instructors, and equipment.

Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help

Since Covid, we have not been able to hold all of our annual fundraisers, and have missed the regular income that these established funding streams have provided. This has resulted in less funding available for purchasing books and materials, and producing library programs, including our popular summer reading program. Conversely, programs have become more costly due to the community’s continuing need for both virtual and in-person events. Additional technology needed for digital programming and the need for up-to-date equipment to serve patrons’ increased technology needs have created an incredible challenge for us to successfully serve our patrons
