AWARE is a vital lifeline in Mercer County, providing comprehensive, trauma-informed services to individuals and families impacted by domestic, emotional, and sexual violence, as well as elder abuse.
We offer 24/7 crisis intervention, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, and safety planning to help survivors rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
Recognizing the unique needs of young survivors, AWARE also provides specialized children’s services, including age-appropriate counseling, supportive programming, and advocacy to help children heal from trauma and break the cycle of violence.
Through community education and prevention initiatives, we work to create lasting change and safer communities for future generations.
As our mission states, “AWARE is committed to providing education, support and advocacy for all people in Mercer County impacted domestic, emotional, sexual violence, and elder abuse. We are helping the hurting to heal.”
Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help
AWARE’s ability to provide these critical, life-saving services is increasingly challenged by ongoing funding instability. We experienced a 7.5% reduction in federal funding. State funding remains flat for despite the fact that our services are statutorily required. This widening gap between resources and need creates significant uncertainty in sustaining the programs in our community.
As costs rise and funding sources become less predictable, private donor support is more essential than ever. Contributions from individuals and community partners directly ensure that survivors continue to have access to safe shelter, advocacy, and the compassionate care they need to heal and move forward.
