SERVING THE SHENANGO VALLEY, GREENVILLE / NORTHERN MERCER COUNTY, AND GROVE CITY

AMOUNT DONATED: $0

Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, Inc., a private non-profit organization, has been serving the County’s older adults (60 years and older) since 1976. Our mission is to assist older adults to remain safe and independent for as long as possible.

The Agency operates four senior centers throughout the County (Greenville, Grove City, Sandy Lake, Hermitage) and an adult day care program, in addition to an administrative office in Mercer.

The Agency provides a vast array of services to meet the needs of the aging population of Mercer County. For a full list of services, see our website at www.mercercountyaging.org.

  Programs Supported by Your Donations

All of the donations received are used to provide services for older adults. The 60+ population is growing rapidly and the demand for services is outpacing available funding. Mental health, issues, physical health issues, dementia and related disorders are impacting the quality of life for many of our older adults.

Senior Centers offer programs for older adults that combat social isolation, improve nutrition, improve health and wellness and educate on issues such as scams, estate planning, and available resources. Participation in the senior center helps in delaying the need for in-home services or institutionalization.

Because of the growing older population, our OPTIONS program has seen an increase in referrals for In-home services which include home-delivered meals and personal care. The Agency is also seeing a great uptick in calls for Protective Services which focuses on eliminating or reducing risk to those affected by abuse, neglect, exploitation and abandonment. These calls can be very difficult to resolve and to alleviate risk, the need for housing, emergency services, transportation, minor home repairs and in-home support, continues to grow.

Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help

Recent reductions and uncertainty in federal funding have significantly impacted the Agency’s ability to meet the growing needs of our older adults. Funding for senior meal programs has decreased, placing a strain on services that many older adults rely on daily for nutrition and social connection. At the same time, demand continues to rise for transportation to critical medical appointments outside Mercer County, many of which require lengthy travel during early morning or late evening hours. Consumable (incontinence) supplies and emergency response systems (lifelines) were ended due to funding constraints and impact the dignity and safety of older adults.
