MERCER COUNTY COALITION FOR DRUG AWARENESS

SERVING THE SHENANGO VALLEY AND NORTHERN TRUMBULL COUNTY

AMOUNT DONATED: $408.62

Our mission is to reduce and prevent drug and alcohol abuse through awareness, education, and action, as well as collaborating with the community to remove obstacles to recovery. We seek to increase resources for individuals in all phases of recovery, as well as their loved ones. We promote healthy alternatives to increase positive choices. MCCDA’s ROAR Center is a hub for people to socialize, learn and participate in new activities, and increase daily life skills while working on overall sobriety and basic needs.

  Programs Supported by Your Donations

Healthy Alternatives program: this program provides activities to keep the mind busy and learning new skills. This also provides an outlet for the participant and opportunity to try new things. Included is our annual kayaking trip. We would like to be able to expose people to more outings and bus rental is necessary in many cases. We would also like to be able to offer increased activities in the evenings at ROAR Center, as well as build on our regularly scheduled events such as holiday dinners and socials.

Personal Hygiene program: we provide personal hygiene items, as well as opportunity to shower, to those who may be homeless or “couch hopping”. Increased income would assist in purchasing and maintaining these products.

Training to provide skills to be employable is another area in which we are working on. We would like to be able to provide brief internships to train individuals coming out of incarceration or inpatient rehabilitation to be employable. Some of the areas they often need to work on include self-esteem, problem-solving, punctuality, and working as a team member. The support offered at ROAR Center is a very important component for those working on recovery.

Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help

As we make every attempt to reach those in need, we are stretched thin financially. There are many homeless individuals, or individuals who do not have a safe place to call their own. Their safe environment is ROAR Center. We would like to be able to provide our programming into the evenings more. Their basic needs have to be addressed so that they can then begin to build their self-esteem and work on their overall recovery. We are central in the Sharon area and this provides convenience for those without transportation in the nearby area.
