AMOUNT DONATED: $6,475.38

Founded in 1978 with the purpose to find forever families for youth in the Mahoning Valley childwelfare system. With the reality that thousands of teens leave the system witout ever experiencing the stability of a family, our purpose and programs have evolved to meet that need. Our mission today is to inspisre, develop, and nurture enduring support and connections for current and former foster youth and those at risk of coming into care.

Giving Week Progress:

FUNDRAISING GOAL: $45,000

  Programs Supported by Your Donations

Donations during Giving Week will support foster youth served by NOAS in our community. Our IGNITE Foster Youth Mentoring Program matches foster care youth ages 12-17 and former foster youth ages 18-21 with a supportive, nurturing adult trained to guide them. Mentor / mentee relationships are designed to last at least one year. IGNITE Mentor Foster Youth believes that no child should have to experience foster care alone, and that no young adult should age out of foster care without support. Connecting mentors and mentees leads to meaningful relationships. As a child develops more healthy relationships with adults, he or she becomes more capable of dealing with trauma from the past and overcoming it. Fostering is one of the most tragic events a child can experience, and mentoring can give older teens and young adults without a family the support they desperately need.

Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help

NOAS is funded by grants, private donations, events, fundraisers, and billable hours (training and care days). The pandemic continues to affect NOAS. Particularly in the areas of donations and billable hours (training dollars and days of care are drastically down). The recruitment and retention of qualified foster caregivers (leading to an increase in training and care days) take a considerable amount of time. There is a shortage of qualified foster caregivers throughout the industry.
