NORTHEAST OHIO ADOPTION SERVICES

SERVING WARREN (OH) / SOUTHERN TRUMBULL COUNTY AND NORTHERN TRUMBULL COUNTY

AMOUNT DONATED: $2,270.70

Since 1978, NOAS has been helping foster youth in the Mahoning Valley find forever families. Due to the fact that thousands of teens leave the foster system without ever experiencing family stability, our services and programs have expanded in response. Today, we are committed to inspiring, developing, and nurturing enduring support and connections for current foster youth and those at-risk of entering care.

Giving Week Progress:

FUNDRAISING GOAL: $50,000

  Programs Supported by Your Donations

Donations during Giving Week will support our IGNITE Foster Youth Mentoring Program. The IGNITE mentoring program matches foster youth ages 12-17 and former foster youth ages 18-21 with a supportive, nurturing adult trained to guide them. Fostering is one of the most tragic events a child can experience. Mentoring can provide foster youth and young adults without a family with the support they desperately need. Our IGNITE Mentor program believes that no child should experience foster care alone and that no young adult should age out of foster care without support. Our program is designed to build a connection/relationship lasting at least one year between the mentor and the mentee. It is a program goal that these relationships become meaningful and fulfilling for the mentee. As a child develops healthy relationships with adults, he or she becomes more capable of dealing with trauma from the past and overcoming it.

Needs that Cannot beMet without Your Help

NOAS receives funding from grants, private donations, events, fundraisers, and billable hours (for training and foster care). As a result of the lack of foster families, our billable hours (training dollars and days of care) are dramatically down. It is a problem that affects the entire industry. There are 16,000 foster youth in Ohio who need homes, but only 7,500 licensed foster families. It takes a considerable amount of time to recruit and retain qualified foster parents (leading to an increase in training and care days). The aging population of our major donors has also contributed to a decline in our private donations and fundraisers.
